The
Laurine Kimmel High School Art Exhibition showcases selected works by juniors
and seniors in nine southeast Nebraska schools. Opening on Monday, March 10, 2008 at
the Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts gallery in Nebraska City, the
Laurine Kimmel Exhibition features a variety of works including drawings,
paintings, book arts, ceramic and sculpture by more than forty
student/artists.
These works, selected by art educators, allow the public to
view some of the best artworks from area high schools including Auburn Public,
Falls City Public, Johnson-Brock Public, Johnson County Central Public, Lourdes
Central Catholic, Nebraska City Public, Pawnee City Public, Sterling Public,
and Syracuse Public.
In memory of Laurine Kimmel, a graduate of Nebraska
City High School, in honor of her love for art and her painting, and in support
art education, The Richard P. Kimmel and Laurine Kimmel Charitable Foundation,
Inc. is proud to sponsor this exhibit in cooperation with Nebraska Educational
Service Unit 4, art teachers in participating schools, and the Kimmel Harding
Nelson Center for the Arts.
In addition to acknowledging publicly the talent and hard
work of area students, the Laurine Kimmel High School Art Exhibition also
offers participating schools the opportunity to apply for modest grants to
support art education in the classroom.
An opening reception in honor of the student/artists, their
families and art teachers is open to the public on Saturday, March 15, from 1
– 3 p.m. at the gallery. The gallery will be open to visitors Saturday
and Sunday April 26 & 27, 2008, from noon to 4 p.m.
The exhibition runs through Arbor Day weekend, ending on
Sunday, April 27.
