Aaron Badham

My work draws on ideas of play, experiential learning, and manual investigation in relation to mechanics.  Using chromatically colored, inflated steel fabrications in conjunction with MDF constructions and spray rubber, I create toy-like abstractions of machine parts and tools.  My interest lies in the personal connections and responsibilities we hold toward maintaining and fixing these systems.  I am fascinated with the uncertainties associated with the relationship between man and machine, and the cultivation of a sense of manual self-reliance. Two-dimensional works act as both preparatory drawings and additional evaluation of my experiences within a power-driven environment. While examining the significance of corporeal immersion in a hard reality, I balance the idiosyncratic reflexes of artistic process with diligent craftsmanship.
