Still Green investigates the impact of urban development on native woodlands. Gibbons’ cut-branch and seed drawings document an act of destruction, but also suggest restoration: “For there is hope for a tree, if it is cut down, that it will sprout again, and that its shoots will not cease ….” (Job 14: 7–9) Other images in the exhibit depict displaced birds considering manufactured birdhouses with naive optimism and provide an absurd counterpoint to the more somber tree images.
