Ellen Adams writes fiction, essays, and songs, with a particular interest in the unexpected doorways between kinship and estrangement. Recently selected a Ploughshares Emerging Writer and Lambda Literary Fellow, she’s revising a novel and developing a book-length work of nonfiction. Her work has appeared in Black Warrior ReviewKenyon Review OnlineCrazyhorse, Singapore Art Museum, and elsewhere, and her nonfiction was listed among notable works in the 2019 collection of Best American Essays. As a touring singer-songwriter working in folk and country traditions, she’s played festivals and major cities throughout North America, and is hard at work on her next album. Her work has been supported by grants and residencies from the Elizabeth George Foundation, Artist Trust, the Helene Wurlitzer Foundation, Hedgebrook, and Banff Centre, among others.  A Permanent Resident of Canada, Adams studied Comparative Literature and Urban Studies at Princeton University, and holds an MFA from Brooklyn College.
