Ranger Liu (they/them; b. 2000) is an interdisciplinary artist and astrophysicist interested in cross-applying the truth-making methodologies of science and art to bridge the gap between “objective” and “subjective” knowledge. Their creative practice explores how abstract theory, such as math, physics, astronomy, and linguistics, can be repurposed to communicate lived experience. They frequently use their experience as a queer and trans Chinese-American as source material, creating autotheoretic works spanning sonic, visual, and sculptural composition and performance.
Ranger was born in Manhattan and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. They hold an MFA in Design and Technology from Parsons School of Design and BA degrees in Astrophysics and Computer Science from Columbia University. They currently live and work in Seattle, Washington, where they are pursuing a PhD in Astronomy at the University of Washington. Their work has been exhibited and published nationally.
