Elijah Van Benschoten is a painter, printmaker, and drawer with a fascination for the natural world. He grew up in Southeast Michigan, where he fell in love with the seasons of the Midwest and the visceral urban landscape of Detroit. His degrees are both in painting with a BFA from Siena Heights University and an MFA from Syracuse University. In 2006, Elijah returned to Southeast Michigan to teach Studio Foundations and Printmaking at Adrian College, where he still teaches during the academic year. Since 2007, Elijah has spent his summers teaching at Interlochen Center for the Arts and enjoying the (usually) mild summers of Northern Michigan. His work has been selected for over thirty exhibitions since 2006, spanning ten states and two continents. Elijah believes in daily studio practice to stay sharp, and to that end he has produced at least one drawing per day since August 12, 2008.
