Gwenessa Lam is a visual artist and educator. Her artwork takes interest in historical objects and spaces as compressions of time and collective memory. Working across painting, drawing, and print, her work explores the psychological and social implications of artifacts lost to disaster, censorship, or misidentification. Lam received her BFA from the University of British Columbia and MFA from New York University. Her work has been exhibited at the Bronx Museum of Art , the Queens Museum of Art in New York, Galerie de L'UQAM, and the Glenbow Museum. She has been an artist-in-residence at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, Skowhegan, MacDowell Colony, and Yaddo. Lam has taught at New York University, the University of British Columbia, the Alberta University of the Arts, and is currently Associate Professor at Emily Carr University of Art and Design.
