Hedieh Ilchi was born in Iran and is currently based in Washington DC. In her work, Ilchi explores the notion of "duality" as a reference to her multifaceted cultural identity. With fusions of visual conventions of Western abstraction and Persian Art, her paintings evoke allegories of intrusion and invasion. Ilchi received her MFA in Studio Art from the American University (2011, Washington, DC) and her BFA from the Corcoran College of Art + Design (2006, Washington, DC). She has received many awards including the Bethesda Painting Award and the Robyn Rafferty Mathias International Research Mellon Grant. Ilchi has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions nationally. Her work has been reviewed in a number of publications including the Washington Post and Art Papers magazine. Ilchi has been a resident at the Vermont Studio Center, the Arlington Arts Center (Arlington, VA) and will join the Jentel Artist Residency Program in 2016.
