Hee Yun Kim is a composer whose music interweaves expressive lyricism with diverse cultural and contemporary influences. Her works explore timbre, texture, and narrative, engaging deeply with themes of nature, memory, and psychological depth.

A laureate of the Pablo Casals International Composition Competition, Kim is active both internationally and across the United States. Her recent multimedia work Calling of the Whales—for Korean haegeum, Chinese erhu, and string quartet—was selected for the AT&T Performing Arts Center’s 2024/25 Elevator Project and invited to the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage in 2026.

Kim holds degrees in composition from Seoul National University, the Krzysztof Penderecki Academy of Music in Kraków, and the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign. As founder and artistic director of Threaded Resonance, she leads interdisciplinary projects that reimagine the concert experience through collaborations across music, multimedia, and storytelling.
