Isabel Lu is a painter and researcher whose work explores routes of medicine that echo and overlap. Their educational background spans nutritional science, public health, and community-engaged research focused on food systems. Isabel earned their Bachelor of Science from Cornell University and a Master of Public Health and Registered Dietitian Certification from UNC Chapel Hill. Their large-scale, vibrant portraits incorporate ancestral and contemporary concepts across both Western and Chinese medicine, herbalism, architecture, and mythology. Isabel’s paintings have been shown at Ella West Gallery, the Contemporary Art Museum of Raleigh, and GreenHill Center for North Carolina Art. Isabel has completed residencies at the Durham Art Guild, Artspace in Raleigh, Peter Bullough Foundation in Virginia, and WilderHaven in China. They’ve been invited to speak at Eastern Carolina University, Duke University, and CreativeMornings Raleigh.
