Meyer combines audio, video, and text to create immersive video installation environments that viewers engage with, which are autobiographical personal narratives. These installations explore his time in the military, civilian life afterward, and the consequences of being a combat-disabled veteran.

His current projects explore what it means to be a veteran and how his perception of a veteran has evolved—from enlisting in the military during a period of no significant conflicts, through 15 years of "forever wars" and multiple deployments, to his present-day experiences as a civilian. He is deeply engaged in examining his transition from military service to civilian life.

Meyer received an MFA in photography from Columbia College Chicago and taught at the university level before returning to the military. In the summer of 2022, Meyer attended a CreatiVets Residency at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago for combat-disabled veterans that changed his life.
