Described by Richard Sisson as having a “highly individual sound world” that is “both beautiful and piercingly astringent at once,” Michael Mills (b.1997) composes music that addresses topics of the human condition through an extremely personal lens. His work emphasizes texture and musical gesture, often developing through the exploration and juxtaposition of what he considers “natural” and “unnatural” sounds. Michael’s music has garnered performance on public radio, in Asia, throughout America, and across Europe. He has worked with ensembles and organizations such as the Cincinnati Song Initiative, Tacet(i), Texas New Music Ensemble, Old Bay New Music, Dal Niente, and Quartetto Indaco. Michael will begin his doctoral studies at the University of Pittsburgh in the fall of 2025. He has an M.M. in Composition from The Peabody Institute and a B.A. in Music Composition and Technology with a minor in Psychology from Virginia Tech.
