Michael Remson is a composer, librettist, author, educator and Executive and Artistic Director of the American Festival for the Arts in Houston, Texas. Dr. Remson's active schedule as a composer and librettist includes His most recent operas, Clever Gretel and Sorry, Wrong Number, which premiered at the Lone Star Lyric Theatre Festival and the music for a new installation, SoundForge, which premiered at Houston's Center for Contemporary Craft and will go to Portland in 2013. His work has been performed by Texas Tech University Opera, Abilene Collegiate Opera, Definiens Ensemble, Bulgarian Composers Collaborative, Houston Ballet, Rhode Island College Choruses, Houston Grand Opera and New York City Opera's VOX. Dr. Remson serves on the faculty of the Houston Ballet Academy and the University of Houston. He has published two books on nineteenth-century American music and is a regular presence in Houston's arts community through board service, community involvement and organizational mentoring.
