Naomi J. Falk
Naomi J. Falk grew up in the wilds of Michigan. From an early age, she planned to be an archaeologist, a brain surgeon, a heart surgeon, a meteorologist, and travel the world with Jacques Cousteau (He was an underwater explorer and conservationist who made tv documentaries about his adventures). Those didn’t work out, but she did study sculpture, ceramics, and performance art, receiving an MFA from Carnegie Mellon University. Through playful making in anxious times, she improvises with foraged textiles and found materials (clothing, quilts, tents, adventure gear), sewing softness, survival, and abundant possibilities. Falk has exhibited at well-respected regional and national venues and done residencies in Iceland, the Faroe Islands, and throughout the United States. A university art professor for 20 years, she was recently a Fibers Fellow at Colorado College and has a studio in Colorado Springs, CO.
