Philip Boehm is the author of several plays including Mixtitlan Return of the Bedbug, and The Good Ship St. Louis—as well as adaptations of dramatic texts such as Georg Büchner’s Woyzeck and Aleksander Fredro’s Sweet Revenge. These plays have been seen in Atlanta, Houston, New York, Sacramento, and St. Louis, where he is the Founding Artistic Director of Upstream Theater. He also translates novels and other prose, mostly by German and Polish writers such as Franz Kafka, Hanna Krall, and Herta Müller. Philip is a 2013 Guggenheim Fellow and a two-time recipient of fellowships from the NEA. Other awards include prizes from PEN America, the Goethe Institute, the Polish Book Institute, the U.K. Society of Authors, the Texas Institute of Letters, and the US-Mexico Fund for Culture.
