Anna Mantzaris was a resident at KHN in October of 2005. This year we are pleased to share with you that she has published a book of flash fiction with Galileo Press. We hope you'll support the continuing artistic endeavors of our residents and consider picking up a copy!

Anna Mantzaris is a San Francisco-based writer. Her work has appeared in Ambit, The Cortland Review, McSweeney’s Internet Tendency, Necessary Fiction, New World Writing Quarterly, Sonora Review, and elsewhere. She teaches writing in the M.F.A. program at Bay Path University.

From the Author:

"The book is 16 pieces, all with job titles including 'The Flight Attendant' (about a wife/mom who always packs and takes care of everyone else), 'The Accountant' (examining the internal and external voices of food shaming), and 'The Curator' (a woman strives for perfection to no avail)."

Reviews from the Publisher's website:

“Occupations is a feast of language and imagination. Sumptuous and exuberant, laconic and devastating, it plunges the reader into the complexities of life’s middle part, from which she could only escape on a hot air balloon ride to no where. I fell in love with every story in this book.” —Olga Zilberbourg, Like Water & Other Stories

“The stories in Occupations have a strange charm that defies narrative logic. In them, eccentricity and whimsy appear for readers’ enjoyment, but their gradual effect is unnerving. Around the surreal comic streak in each story runs the filigree of mania. Mantzaris’s characters seem so composed, so manicured that we lean in closer to hear them out as they come unhinged. Something about them fills me with wonder and dread.” —Joshua Peralta, 3rd & Orange
