Stella Zhang
Stella Zhang, born in Beijing, China, graduated from the Central Academy of Fine Arts (BFA, 1989) and Tokyo Art University (MFA, 1996). She immigrated to the United States in 2003 and currently works and lives in San Francisco. Her works have been widely
exhibited in museums and galleries across China, Japan, and the United States, and are included in numerous public and private collections. Featured in The New York Times, San Francisco Chronicle, and international art publications, she held a solo
exhibition at Art Basel Hong Kong in 2016 and has served as an artist-in-residence and visiting lecturer at Stanford University. Zhang’s artistic practice investigates emotion, identity, and psychological space through minimal, tactile materials, creating
contemplative environments that connect personal narratives with broader cultural meanings. Her recent projects expand this dialogue into spatial installations that merge fragility and strength, inviting viewers to sense tension, vulnerability, and resilience
within the human condition.
