Cerulean S. Payne-Passmore (they/them) is a composer and performer working at the intersection of music, identity, and technology. Drawing on processes of collaborative improvisation and the integration of  electronics with acoustic sound, Cerulean strives to create the kind of listening that dissolves boundaries. Their music explores entanglement - between self and other, human and nonhuman, internal and external, navigating themes of ecological grief, genderqueer embodiment, and inner transformation.

They received a PhD in Music Composition from the University of Pennsylvania studying with Tyshawn Sorey. Recently, they have collaborated to create new works with cellist Tom Kraines, flutist Laura Cocks and  clarinetist Madison Greenstone. Cerulean teaches composition at Wildflower Composers and Philadelphia’s All-City Orchestra Summer Academy. They have taught at the University of Pennsylvania, Temple University, and the University of the Arts. In their spare time, Cerulean enjoys reading speculative fiction, exploring new places, and hanging out with their cat, Storm.
