Anastasia Selby was born in Southern California and raised in the Pacific Northwest. By age 16, she was hitch-hiking up and down the west coast by herself. By age 19, she was fighting forest fires out of Oregon. Throughout her twenties she worked as a firefighter on a few hotshot crews and one helicopter, out of Alaska, Colorado, and California. She graduated college at age 34, and is now an MFA candidate at Syracuse University. Her work has been published in Specter, The New Ohio Review, Weird Sister, and VICE. She recently won the Emerging Writer's Prize for Fiction from Boulevard Magazine for her story, "How Certain Fires Burn." In her spare time she watches films, takes pictures, plays outside, and lifts weights.
