Dates of Residence:
Sep 1, 2014 to Sep 12, 2014

Ashley Ryba was born in Columbus, Nebraska and graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with her Bachelors of Fine Arts in May, 2014. While earning her undergraduate degree, she received the Kimmel Foundation Emerging Artist Award, the 2014 Undergraduate Vreeland Award, the Elgas Project Grant, and was a recipient of the UCARE Undergraduate Research Award, assisting ceramicist and UNL Emerita Professor Gail Kendall for two years. Ryba creates interactive installations about environmental conservation, which require the participation of the audience to complete the project. Her interest in public art has brought her work outside of the gallery in effort to interact with a wider audience. Though she primarily works with clay, her materials are determined on a project-to-project basis. Through her work, she hopes to foster an appreciation for our natural environment, and in the viewers, spark a desire to do their part in protecting it.
