His score for Two Girls from Vermont, directed by Obie winner Liesl Tommy, won the Special Audience Award at the NY International Fringe Festival. He and Tommy also collaborated on a workshop production of The Glass Menagerie at the New York Theater Workshop. He is currently writing an opera about Herculine Barbin, a 19th century intersex person who was raised as a girl but forced as an adult to live as a man. Doug is a two-time finalist and one-time semifinalist for the American Prize. Four of his choral works appear in the Craig Hella Johnson Choral Series with G. Schirmer. He has a 15-year-old cat (Brennan) and a 22-year-old frog (Ed).
