Elizabeth Herring
Elizabeth Herring (b. 1991, Los Angeles) is an artist working in photography and installation living in Ojai, California. Herring's practice is centered around investigating image culture and the impact it has on our surroundings. She works primarily by inspecting history and material, whether the work may manifest as a still-life photo of curious items collected from forgotten dollar store corners. Researching material, image, and identity has led her to make work about narrative, and the relationship between place and people. Throughout Herring's work she emphasizes the absurd, humorous, and sometimes dark nature of the distance between representation and represented. Additionally, Herring’s photographs have been published in The Editorial Magazine, Zweikommasieben, Sleek Magazine, Esquire, and Vice. Her work has been shown at the Basic Premise gallery, Ojai, CA; Helen's Costume, Portland, OR; Cashmere Radio, Berlin, DE; Helen J Gallery, Los Angeles, CA; and The New Arts Foundation, Los Angeles, CA.
