I grew up just outside of a small town in the countryside of Haven, KS. My house was a five minutes drive from an Amish community, Yoder, KS. Sometimes I attribute my affinity for patterns and geometry to seeing their quilts on a daily basis. It wasn't until I went to Kansas State University for my BFA that I began to thoroughly explore my obsession with pattern. While at KSU I studied processes in printmaking, gravitating towards relief printmaking. With dozens and dozens of blocks made, I printed hundreds and hundreds of prints. As a graduate student at the University of Nebraska Lincoln, I began to weave my own personal narrative into my work. This developed as a dialog between pattern/mark making and how they inform and transform the figure.
